Taking a page out of the Democratic fundraising machine's recent playbook, Republicans, too, are offering one of their lucky donors a free trip to Washington. The Democratic Party fundraising letter asks for $5.00, and a chance to win a dinner with Barack Obama. It'll be interesting to see which party comes out ahead in this fundraising contest.
But the GOP contest differs in a few stark ways. It's charging contestants ten times more than the Democratic entrance fee, to start with. And, of course, the GOP isn't promising a night with Barack Obama, as Democrats are.
Instead, the lucky Republican winner gets dinner with GOP poster-boy Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker who is positioning himself as a 2012 presidential contender.
"If you've ever watched Newt on TV and thought 'I'd like to meet this guy,' this is your chance!" reads a fundraising solicitation e-mailed today from Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Sessions says he has reserved two seats at Gingrich's table at the June 8th Senate House fundraising dinner for the winner and his or her guest. All it takes to enter the drawing is a contribution of $50 or more.

I'm a Ron Paul Republican, but I would be happy to throw $5 into the ring for a chance to have dinner with the President of the United States? Any idea how to get in on that?

LOL... a little editing left an extra question mark in there...

Here's the link, John--it's at DCCC.org; anyone who contributes at least five bucks is entered into a drawing for dinner with the President! What a bargain!

And, in the interest of fairness, here's the NRCC link, for those who are dying for the opportunity to dine with Newt Gincrich. Entries start at fifty bucks (ouch!):

Thanks for the link. I just gave my five bucks for a chance at dinner with the Prez, though I read in the fine print that if I win I'll be at Nancy Pelosi's table. Oh, well, I guess that's a fair trade off if I could meet Obama.
Alright I entered as well. No comment on how much I gave... I'll be honest and say I'm not to excited about sitting at a table with Nancy Pelosi, but all in all winning would be awesome.
The Republican link didn't work. Thanks for trying though.

I swore I'd never give to the DCCC, since they've been no help at all to us in the 32nd, but what the hell--for a chance to meet President Obama, I gave a donation. I don't mind sitting with Nancy Pelosi, either, 'cause I'd get a chance to tell her a few things! :)
Good luck to all entrants! If anybody wins, brag about it in the most recent comment box, and be sure to include a link to your online photo album and/or blog.
The NRCC link posted above gives the error message "Your session has expired, please click here to return to the donation page." A click of the link takes you directly to the "Dinner with Newt" page. (By the way, the Republican Party contest is for "you and a guest;" the Democratic Party contest doesn't say anything about bringing a guest).
I'll keep my five bucks, or fifty, and eat with people I love and respect.
I don't think I'd enjoy a social event with any of those folks at all.
